Sports Gaming
Now Available in Ohio
Overview
On December 8, 2021, the General Assembly passed House Bill 29, legalizing sports gaming in Ohio.
The bill allows sports gaming through licensed operators of Type A online sportsbooks and Type B brick-and-mortar establishments. The bill creates a comprehensive licensing and regulatory framework under the jurisdiction and rulemaking authority of the Casino Control Commission. For more information, please see the Casino Control Commissions website linked here: https://casinocontrol.ohio.gov/sportsgaming.aspx
Included in the legislation is a framework to require the Ohio Casino Control Commission to select one or more (no more than 20) Type C Lottery Sports Gaming Proprietors to operate lottery sports gaming.
The Ohio Lottery Commission is required to contract with the Type C Lottery Sports Gaming Proprietors and to recommend eligible lottery retailers for a Type C Lottery Sports Gaming Host license.
