Overview

On December 8, 2021, the General Assembly passed House Bill 29, legalizing sports gaming in Ohio.

The bill allows sports gaming through licensed operators of Type A online sportsbooks and Type B brick-and-mortar establishments. The bill creates a comprehensive licensing and regulatory framework under the jurisdiction and rulemaking authority of the Casino Control Commission. For more information, please see the Casino Control Commissions website linked here: https://casinocontrol.ohio.gov/licensing-renewal/02-sports-gaming.

Included in the legislation is a framework to require the Ohio Casino Control Commission to select one or more (no more than 20) Type C Lottery Sports Gaming Proprietors to operate lottery sports gaming.

The Ohio Lottery Commission is required to contract with the Type C Lottery Sports Gaming Proprietors and to recommend eligible lottery retailers for a Type C Lottery Sports Gaming Host license.

Inquiries regarding the program may be submitted to [email protected].
