Lookout for Facebook Scams

While there are many pluses to social media, one of the minuses is social scams. Scam accounts will pose as a trusted source to try and steal information. Recently, an account posing as the Ohio Lottery tried to scam our players.

An account named “Cashout Cashway” has sent messages to some of our Facebook followers saying, “You are one of the lucky selected fans!” This is a scam.

Following the initial message, the scammer will ask for personal or banking information. Protect your personal information by not responding.

If you receive a Facebook message that you are unsure of, check the verification of the account. All of our social media accounts are verified, so look for the blue check mark.

Lottery Myth vs Lottery Fact: Chances of Winning

We’ve got multiple scratch-offs, and we introduce new games about every six weeks to keep the selection fresh.

Some players think their odds of winning are better if they purchase the newest Ohio Lottery Scratch-Offs, but that's not the case.

Whether you purchase a new ticket or one that’s been on sale for a few months the odds of winning remain the same.

Winning scratch-offs are randomly generated throughout the entire run of tickets printed for a game.

That means that in the millions of tickets printed, you will find winners throughout. At the beginning of a game, the middle and the end.

So, don’t discount a scratch-off that’s been in circulation for a few months. Your big winner could be the next ticket in the pack!

Lottery Myth vs Lottery Fact: Winners

Welcome back to our Lottery Myth vs Fact series of posts!

If there’s one common myth we hear a lot about, it’s that winning tickets are only sold in big cities. Not true.

This one gets a lot of play on social media, and sometimes it’s people who live in metropolitan areas that think winning tickets are only sold in small towns. Also, not true.

The fact is that tickets are distributed randomly across the state, so every ticket has an equal chance of winning.

There is a correlation between the number of tickets sold and the number of winners. A retailer that has a high volume of sales will naturally have more winning tickets. The “big city” myth is a direct correlation.

Retailers in metropolitan areas may sell more tickets simply because there’s a larger population and more people buying tickets.

For example, if Cuyahoga County sells 15 percent of our tickets for a specific game, they have 15 percent of the winning tickets for that game.

Check out the map below to see the average scratch-off sales per retailer per week by county.

Bottom line, no matter where you buy, every ticket has an equal chance of winning.
